My fathers letter to bloggers….

June 30 2008
American Flag

Dear Friend,

My name is Andy Gunn, and I’m a veteran of the United States Air Force.  I’ve never written a political letter in my life, but I’m doing it now because I feel I need to.

I depend on the Veteran’s Administration for health care, just like my father did.  His name was Tom Gunn and he served America in two wars.  My brothers John and T.W. were both in the Army, and my nephew served during the Vietnam war, up at Camp Casey on the DMZ border in Korea. Believe me, I pay attention to what’s going on with veterans.

I was raised in Dayton, Ohio, and as a veteran, I’m asking you to help me replace a congressman who votes against veterans over 70% of the time.  That’s the truth:  The current congressman, Mike Turner, has a 29% lifetime voting score from Disabled American Veterans , and the Retired Enlisted Association gives him a lifetime 27%.  But for me, the last straw was his vote last month against the new GI Bill and funding for construction for the VA.  He even votedYoung AndyOlder Andy against combat bonuses for veterans while at the same time voted himself a raise.
We can put an end to this, and make sure our veterans get the treatment they deserve.

The doctors and nurses at our VA center are great, but they’re overworked and outnumbered.  More than once I’ve helped the blind young vets get from place to place because there aren’t enough staffers to help them get around.  They couldn’t see me crying, and that’s a good thing.

I know for a fact that Jane Mitakides, the woman who is running to replace him, is a solid supporter of the military and veterans, and I want to help send her to Congress. American Flag - Jane

I know most of us don’t have a lot of money, but if we could each send $10 we could change the lives of veterans and their families all over America.
Will you stand with this old vet and help me elect Jane Mitakides to fight for my brothers and sisters who served?  Just take a minute, right now, to help me help Jane.

$10 is great, or do more if you can.
I’m tired of saying “we can’t do anything about it,” because there is something we can do.  It’s as simple as going to her web site, www.jane08.com, and giving $10, or whatever you think is right.

She’s smart as a whip, from a solid military family, and as red-white-and-blue as they come.   I know she’ll fight for us every day,  because I’ve known her all her life.  I’m her uncle.

Please, do this now – it’s so important.

At this point in my life…

June 24 2008

I am at the point in my life that I want to be out on my own and I am seriously thinking about buying my own home. I am going to be 42 yrs old in October and I know once my parents die, I will be sort of on my own then because I know my brother and his son will do their own things in life so I ponder the thought should I go ahead and try to buy a home? I feel excited but still scared at the same time for this is a big purchase in my life and the economy isn’t doing very well right now. I have lined my ducks up in a row and think if I could afford something then why not try to achieve this goal? I know that I must start out small and work my way into a home that I can be proud of. Right now I figure that I can afford about $80,000 for a home and still be able to live in my means. The only problem with this amount is the homes that are less really need alot of work and are much older which means more repair. I am going to make phones this week to some mortgage people that my friend has recommended to e and then see what we can come up with. I also have one of the best Realtors in the business which is Kathy T. and I know she wont steer me wrong in purchasing my new home. I want a place that I can call my own and decorate the way I want it plus if I want to walk around nude in my house I may do so! I hope everyone wishes me luck in this purchase and I will keep everyone up to date and I will let you all know when I find the right home!

Is there pride in our city?

June 17 2008

With everything that’s been going on with the city hall here in La Vergne Tn, I am beginning to wonder if our city officals have any pride? I know that some of the top officals and supervisors don’t even live in our city. Are they embarrassed by our city that they have to live elsewhere? I know that one aldreman is running for re-election this November and I am going to do everything in my power to have them re-elected. As for the others I could care less about them for they don’t stand up for our rights and they dont take pride in this city. There are citizens that could run city government better than what its going through now! Let’s stand up now and take back our great city.

Publix you make me sin…

June 09 2008

I was sitting here tonight watching some stupid tv show when publix came on with a commercial for one of their cakes. I was already debating on going to go out to grab a choc shake but now I was thinking wow this looks awfully good. Well I jumped into my little bitch mobile and thought I will go where the bitch mbile takes me. Well don’t you know I was taken to Publix. I went to the bakery dept and asked about this cake that I saw on tv and they said they would have to make me one because they couldnt keep them in stock but it would only take a few minutes. I waited and it was well worth the wait. You must go and buy you one of these wonderful fattening cakes tomorrow.

Gang violence

June 02 2008

I just saw on news2 a video of some residents in north Nashville that had a fake funeral and it seems that there was an ex-gang member that was there trying to talk with the youth about not getting involved in gangs. I wish other ex gang member’s would work with the youth to tell them not to join a gang. This might be the right way to help the gang population. We adults need to work with the youth and try to teach them the right way of life! If someone wants to join a gang why not tell them to join the boys and girls club or some other group that will enable them to do the right things in life. Just last night we had someone at work wearing a bandana and it wasnt a gang related bandana but I still had them remove it for if I left one wear it then all can wear it. I try to do my part and not let those show support for gangs. I also have several of my regualr customers that have move across to Tn to escape the gang life and now they don’t regret the move for they are living much better lives and working hard. I have heard them some nights talk to other youths about gangs and they tell them it’s not the life they want to live. This is a start but we need everyone to help in this situation. If our churchs will stand up and help I see this a good thing as well as civic groups need to sponser cetain events for the youth. Summer time is the time most youth have nothing to do and they get sucked up into the gangs! It all begins with you!!
